Residue Free Hair

If Hairprint® has access to the hair, it works beautifully. However, there are chemicals, compounds, and even some ingredients labeled as "natural" or "organic" in today’s shampoos, conditioners, and styling products that coat the hair and leave a buildup of residue. Soaps, such as potassium cocoate, used in shampoos also leave residue. You need to eliminate buildup in order for Hairprint to work. In order to remove the residue on your hair, we recommend using Hairprint® Clarifying Shampoo or Hairprint® Chelating Shampoo the same day or immediately prior to applying Hairprint.

Commercial clarifying shampoos have strong surfactants and we do not recommend them. Many contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), which is too strong for the scalp. If you think your hair has buildup, leave the Hairprint® Clarifying shampoo on for five minutes, and/or wash twice. Once 24 hours before your treatment and then again immediately before using Hairprint and it's components including our Pre-treatment or Prepare. If you have hard or well water, see below under Minerals for the key to eliminating dry scalp and brittle hair. If you have QUATs in your products please see our recommendations.

These are some examples of the products, substances, and ingredients that cause buildup and block Hairprint. Please see our Recommendations should these ingredients be in any of your shampoos/conditioners/styling products. This is key to making Hairprint work for you.

SILICONES - Silicones are the worst. For example, dimethicone is not water soluble and it will build up on your hair to the point you literally have to scrape it off. It can also clog the hair cuticle and scalp follicles cause hair thinning or loss. Silicone  ingredients often end in cone, conol, col, or xane. Silicones are synthetic polymers not unlike plastics or rubber that coat the hair. They can be found in shampoos, conditioners, hair sprays, glosses, serums, pomades, waxes, gels, and glazes. Please use Hairprint Clarifying Shampoo the same day or just prior to a Hairprint treatment in order to remove any residue from the ingredients/product types listed above. Recommendation: If you have silicone build-up and wash once with Clarifying Shampoo, you might only make the silicone sticky first time out. You may need to wash again. You can wash 24 hours prior to your treament using no there shampoo conditioner or styling product. Then use once again immediately before using your Prepare packet/Pre-treament as recommended and the mixes in our kit.  This is a hair detox process in order to return your hair to its natural condition.

Examples - Dimethicone, Dimethiconol, Dimethicone copolyol, Cyclomethicone, Phenyl trimethicone, Methicone. Cyclomethicone/Cyclopentasiloxane

PROTEINS - Many shampoos and conditioners contain protein, but usually the protein is window dressing on the label and has almost no impact. On the other hand, protein treatments or styling products for straightening or smoothing the hair with ingredients like keratin are used with or release formaldehyde when heat is applied and cause internal damage to the hair. Recommendation: If you are using protein infused products, please try to discontinue 2-3 weeks before Hairprint. If you've had a straightening treatment like a keratin, Brazilian blowout, or similar treatment done to your hair in the last 2-3 months, please read our Transition Tips article

Example: Keratin, Brazilian Blowout, Silk Protein, etc.

QUATS - Categorized as natural polymers these are bromine or chlorine salts of ammonia that act as anti-static agents, disinfectants, and algaecides. Many "natural" "organic" hair care justify quats because they can be made from turnip oil, guar, sugar, or honey. What something is made from does not matter. What it ends up as does matter. Quats can defrizz the hair and make it feel softer. However, it is the MSG of hair care: addictive, in some cases harmful, and often unnecessary. Many quats are hormone and endocrine disruptors, cause acute dermatitis, and/or release formaldehyde. They cause build-up both inside and outside of the hair and scalp. Creating a vicious cycle of use while essentially destroying hair health from the inside out. When you wash them down the drain they end up in the water supply and are toxic to fish. Truly healthy hair does not need synthetics. Avoid them! Recommendation: If you have used a product that contains quats, please stop use for at least 7-10 days before using Hairprint Color Restorer. Once this period has passed, we recommend using one of our Clarifying or Chelating shampoo 24 hours prior with no other conditioners or styling products used after. The we recommend using once again immediately before your Hairprint treatment using the prepare and Pre-treatment packet as directed.  If you have hard/well water and/or swim in chlorinated water, use our Chelating shampoo (it is also a clarifying shampoo, but will remove mineral build up from the hair).

Exampleshydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, behentrimonium chloride, stearylkonium chloride cetrimoniumcetrimide, dofanium chloride, tetraethylammonium bromidedidecyldimethylammonium chloride

MINERALS - When combined with chlorine oxidizers you can get strange effects  If you have hard water (all well water is hard as is 80% of U.S. municipal waters), you will need our Chelating Shampoo to remove the calcium (lime), magnesium and iron. Minerals create a ‘'wall" that is like a bathtub ring on your hair. Certain minerals can block Hairprint and alter results after a treatment. We highly recommend Hairprint Chelating Shampoo. It is gentle, but effective. You may want to use Hairprint Chelating Shampoo every 7-10 days. It will eliminate and continue to remove calcium deposits that build up over time, lodge in the follicle, cause limp lifeless hair and hair loss. Chelating Shampoo can stop an itching dry scalp, return your hair to its natural shine and body, and greatly improve coverage with Hairprint Color Restorer. If you find your hair going brassy or dark after three weeks, that is often due to mineral content in the water. These mineral deposits can be removed with one wash of Chelating Shampoo. Our Chelating Shampoo is also a Clarifying Shampoo. You need not use both. Recommendation: You may use our Hairprint Chelating Shampoo immediately before a Hairprint treatment and once every 7-10 days.

Examples - iron, calcium, copper, calcium, magnesium.

OILS- INFUSIONS/TREATMENTS/BASES- Oils are very healthy for the hair. Especially, if they are from pure excellent sources like organic coconut oils, shea butters, and other raw and wonderful ingredients. However, they need to be thoroughly removed before using Hairprint Color Restorer. They generally take 7-10 days to dissipate naturally. Recommendation: You may use our Clarifying or Chelating Shampoo 24 hours prior to treatment and then again immediately before treatment to ensure no oil residue remains prior to application.

Examples- castile soap, hair bar soaps, oil listed as top 3 ingredient in product: as in oil treatments and infusions.

Prior to using Hairprint and once weekly we recommend detoxing your hair using Hairprint Clarifying, and Chelating Shampoos. After applying the Hairprint Color Restorer, we recommend the use of one of our gentle daily shampoos and conditioners Bamboo, Amla, or Bio-Active Kelp as well as our Exfoliating Shampoo. If you re uncertain about the recommendation a good process to follow us to use our Shampoo and conditioner options for 2-3 weeks before starting your Hairprint treatment with one of our Clarifying/Chelating or Exfoliating treatments. Please use the detox shampoo, of your choice, 24 hours prior without using any other products: shampoo, conditioner, or styling products. Then use once again immediately before starting your treatment using our Prepare/Pre-treatment and mixes as recommended. This is a good process rot follow as you await new roots and growth to treat with Hairprint.
