What are the pH Levels of your Shampoo/Conditioner Options?

Human hair and scalp oil, sebum, has a pH balance of between 4.5 and 5.5. This natural hair acidity prevents fungi and bacteria in the hair and scalp, and keeps the cuticle closed and healthy. You want any hair care products such as shampoo/conditioner to be between 5.0-6.0 to ensure it balances with water’s natural pH. Highly alkaline (high number on pH scale: 12-9) or acidic shampoos (low number on the pH scale: 1-4), when used regularly, can cause an unbalanced scalp that encourages fungal and bacterial growth as well breaks the bonds of the hair making it prone to damage and breakage.

Balanced pH levels are very important for healthy hair and scalp. Residues can encourage fungal and bacterial growth. Removing residues can help your own products and ours work better as well as help ensure the hair is free of all coatings prior to a Hairprint Color Restorer application.

When changing to new products/process please allow 3-4 weeks of use to determine the efficacy and benefits of our products for your hair scalp. See Directions below.

When changing to new products/process sometimes the scalp can over produce sebum especially if you are used to using shampoo daily. It can take 3-4 weeks to normalize. In the meantime, 1 part baking soda to 4 parts corn starch can help absorb oils in between washings. You may add a drop of your favorite essential oil if you wish to do so.
